On the afternoon of 12th, Chairman Xi visited LGD G8.5 OLED panel manufacturing base and GAC Aean New Energy Automobile Co., LTD., Huangpu District, Guangzhou, to learn about the development of high-level opening to the outside world and high-end manufacturing in the area, and communicated with local enterprise representatives, scientific research staff and front-line employees.

Manufacturing is the foundation for building a country and strengthening it. At present, Guangzhou is building itself into the "display Capital of the World" by focusing on the new display industry. Guangzhou topped the list of "Top 10 new display cities in 2022", followed by Hefei in Anhui province and Shenzhen in Guangdong Province, according to the "Study on Top 10 New Display Cities and Competitiveness in 2022" released by consultancy.

Billions of "show the capital", how can Guangzhou play?

If Guangzhou wants to be the "display capital of the world", what is the foundation of Guangzhou?

According to relevant data, Guangzhou is one of the core development areas of the ultra high-definition video (4K) industrial cluster with the most mature and complete domestic industry chain, which brings together a number of key enterprises such as Hongli Zhihui, Wrench Technology, Bo Guan, Covey New, Corning, Skyworth, China Star Optoelectronics, Lejin, Ultra Vision, Vicinino, and source shares. A complete industrial chain has been initially formed from upstream raw material components, midstream display panel manufacturing, and downstream terminal applications.

● First, the construction of LGD G8.5 OLED panel factory in Huangpu District, Guangzhou cost 46 billion yuan, code-named LGDCO, with a designed capacity of 90K/M, was successfully accepted in December 2021, under the jurisdiction of LG Display Optoelectronic Technology (China) Co., LTD. At the same time, behind the production line lies a startling statistic: nearly half of the world's large-size OLED TV panels are made in Guangzhou.

In addition, LGD has two G8.5 TFT-LCD panel plants in Guangzhou, also located in Huangpu District of Guangzhou, code-named LGDCA-1 and LGDCA-2. LGDCA-1, with an investment of 14.7 billion yuan and an initial capacity of 90K/M, was accepted in 2015; LGDCA-2, with an investment of 13.3 billion yuan and an initial capacity of 30K/M, was accepted in 2017. But after halving production capacity last year, the two plants are now up for sale to help solve the financial crisis at LGD's headquarters in South Korea.

● Second, TCL China Star Optoelectronics in Guangzhou Huangpu District T9 project G8.6 TFT-LCD panel factory with a total investment of 35 billion, the initial design capacity of 180K/M, and officially mass production line on April 6 this year. It is reported that the T9 project will also start the construction of ph2 production line this year, and it is estimated that the fixed investment will be 5 billion.

In addition, China Star T8 project is also planned to be built in the same area, a G8.5/8.6AM OLED plant using the inkjet printing (IJP) process, but as the technology is not yet mature, the exact construction content and planning are yet to be determined.

● In addition, the G6 flexible AMOLED module production line project in Guangzhou Zengcheng has invested 11.2 billion yuan, planning to build 17 to 20 curved and foldable module production lines, with a planned production capacity of 52.23 million display modules per year. It is reported that the project has achieved the first product delivery before the Spring Festival in 2021.

● Finally, Hon Hai and Sakai Display Products Co., LTD. (SDP) will invest 61 billion in the Ultra Vision G10.5 TFT LCD production line in Zengcheng, Guangzhou, with a designed capacity of 90K/M. It is reported that the first phase of the project will be completed by the end of 2020, and the overall construction will be completed by the middle of 2021.

It is worth mentioning that with the construction and production of strategic emerging industry projects such as LGD's 8.5 generation OLED project, Super Vision Sakai 10.5 Generation TFT-LCD display production line project, VI Cigna's 6th generation flexible AMOLED module production line project and TCL China Star t9 project, Guangzhou has become a city with production lines of four display technology types.

With 100 billion yuan as the "capital of display", Guangzhou has a promising future.

After years of deep cultivation, ultra-high-definition video and new displays have become the "new business card" for the high-quality development of 100 billion level industries and manufacturing industries in Guangzhou.

According to an official with the Guangzhou Bureau of Industry and Information Technology, ultra-high-definition video and new display industries are important forces for Guangzhou's steady economic growth. In 2022, the output value of the whole industrial chain exceeded 200 billion yuan, and there were nearly 500 industrial enterprises above designated size. Guangzhou ranked first in the country in the production capacity of ultra-high-definition display panels.
