Samsung has unveiled the world's first OLED panel with a built-in fingerprint sensor and heart rate sensor

Samsung Display unveiled a new screen panel, the Sensor OLED, at this year's SID Display Week in Los Angeles. Samsung says the panel has a built-in fingerprint sensor and heart rate sensor, while integrating biometrics and fitness tracking sensors can significantly reduce the complexity of a phone or tablet.

It is understood that the Sensor OLED panel has a built-in optical sensor OPD, which makes it no longer necessary to install a fingerprint sensor under the screen in the production process of mobile phones and other products, which not only reduces the space occupation, but also reduces the cost. Predictably, the display technology could lead to new biometric and health-related features in future phones and tablets.

"In order to accurately measure a person's blood pressure, it is necessary to measure blood pressure in both arms," Samsung explained in its press release. "Sensor OLED displays can sense fingers on both hands at the same time, providing more accurate health information than existing wearables."

In addition to Sensor OLED, Samsung also showed off the Rollable Flex screen, which can expand to more than five times its length when unrolled. It also means slimmer, foldable phones may be possible in the future.
